Default Initial problem to fix

Thanks for adding me to this forum.

My wife drives a Nissan Micra K12 and it has developed an annoying issue with the fuel gauge.

The problem occurs when the fuel level drops towards 1/4 full. When the key is inserted and the car is started the fuel low lamp comes on immediately and the needle sits on empty.

By the time she has driven the few kilometers to the petrol station the lamp has gone out and the needle begins to move above empty. After about 10 minutes the gauge indicates the correct reading of approx 1/4 full.

I have located the fuel gauge sensor unit under the back seat. It is approx 120mm diameter and I expect it will house the fuel pump and float assembly. Can I fix this myself?
Bob.
