Default Help!!1997 d21 4x4 computer smoked!!

Truck has been awesome till 2 weeks ago, driving down highway and quit and Ismelled wires burnt,computer was ruined so I ordered a new one.before I replaced,checked wires from front to back of truck for frays,cleaned all grounds which omed out to zero.before I replaced computer.got truck running for 15 minutes at idle an drove 2 miles to store an it burned new computer.what is causing this???

Check your fusible links. These are designed to prevent electrical surges from damaging electrical components.

When fusible links go out, a lot of people don't understand why there was such a weak wire there in the first place. They will "fix it" by putting in a solid wire.

Fusible links typically burn out as the voltage regulator starts to fail in the alternator, sending too much voltage into the system at one time. Also, fusible links can fail if someone tries to jump off a car and has the battery cables connected backwards (Positive to Negative). The fusible links will prevent the CPU and injectors from being fried from those surges.

So, my guess is the voltage regulator is out on your alternator, but because the fusible links were replaced with straight wires, your CPU got fried because of it.

Already had alternator tested.so it's good,I never put straight wired the fuse links.driving truck since I got it a year ago with no problems..just driving down smooth hwy and it just burnt ECM.checked wires &ground and replaced & burnt 2nd ecm..THANKS BUT I'M LOST ON IT&NEED HELP

Wow I thought there were helpful folks on here, Has this forum been shutdown?? Is anyone out there??? Reckon I will check Nico club forum,not tried it yet..
