First thing describe cut out (misfire)(bog down) or (Die) Next is to make sure the pair of ignition points are opening then adjust the dwell angle to around 42 degrees. Only old timers will have a tach dwell meter then use there good timing light to set the timing. Often I find that the point plate inside the distributor has become loose. Then after that remove the air filter top engine off and look for fuel squirt when some one is depressing the accelerator pedal. If that is ok next check if the second barrel is functioning old throttle shafts become stuck and the vacuum diaphragm may leak. I use a skinny screw driver and lots of WD-40 at full throttle engine off I work the second barrel throttle plate open and closed. Once that is freed up then start the car and look at the front of the float chamber to see if the fuel level is at the line or dot on the sight glass. Fuel filter? Your working on one of those old cars with an engine that needed constant maintenance and Valve adjustments and spark plugs every 12,000 miles. Before you spend to much time/money check compression.Replace the spark plugs with a new set of BP-6ES-II NGK's Something as simple as a bad distributor cap or rotor can cause poor running havoc.

Excellent advice john paul. I would add that the '78 620 had a transistorized ignition and a good one. Check that the ignition advance, the vacuum advance on the distributor is working.
