Default 2004 Nissan frontier timing chain rattle

I own a 2004 Nissan frontier XE 2WD King Cab that has a rattle coming from the front of the engine compartment only for the first couple minutes when I start the engine cold. Once the engine warms the rattle goes away. A mechanic told me it is probably my timing chain and that it's expensive to fix and a lot of frontier owners just leave it alone.
Is there a way to confirm it's my timing chain? Is it reasonable advice to leave it alone? Could it be as simple as tightening the tensioner or is it more likely I need to replace the entire chain?
