Cool Question about the rogue and cvt

Having always driven 6cyl or 8cyl automatic suv's or trucks I have never owned a 4cyl with a cvt.I just purchased a 2012 rogue.I absolutley love it and find myself watching the fuel economy meter trying to get the best mpg I know its not 100% accurate but it is helping me adjust to the cvt more quickly having never driven a vehicle with one. With that being said I find the cvt to be a bit noisy during accelaration compared to automatic/manual transmissions. Not a bad noisy but noisy, its hard to could be a combination of me going into a 4cyl along with having a cvt.Is this normal for the rogue to be a bit noisy or have a little bit of whine to it.Thanks guys look forward to chatting with all of you with my new rogue

Default Whining is cause for action

You might want to take a look at this post at Edmonds. There are a lot of comments about the CVT, but one in particular (read down a ways) addresses the whining, and the advise is cautionary. Have a read:

Default Whine

CVTs are kind of famous for an odd whine type acceleration sound, which may or may not coincide with actual acceleration. For instance, with a CVT, you may decelerate and here what sounds like revving, it feels odd to those not used to it. But it is the continously variable transmission adjusting it's variation.
