Bloc Rockin' Beater: Twin-turbo Skyline-powered 2105 shows off a Lada intercooler |
|

Take a close look at the car in these photos. What at first glance appears to be a '70s race car done up for SEMA is actually S. Kartuzoff's Lada 2105 Gladkov Edition. The car has been dubbed "Adrenalin," and as the description says, "It is the Russian car!" with motive power coming from a Nissan Skyline engine that has been boosted by a pair of Garrett turbos. The before-and-after pics show how much work went into creating this oddly classic and simultaneously modern vehicle.
Most of our crew aren't digging the scissor doors, but the intercooler-as-grille idea, well, that's just inspired. And the twin-turbo powertrain? Boffo. Makes us think of all of those glorious IMSA TU cars from the '70s. Cars like the Alfa GTV, Fiat 124, BMW 2002, Datsun... [Read More]

STUDY: Toyota and Honda supplier relations suffer while Ford, GM improve |
|
May 26, 2009 - 10:04 PM - by Nissan Forum

Filed under: Chrysler, LLC., Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan, Toyota

In the latest installment of an annual supplier relations survey put together by Planning Perspectives, Honda and Toyota have upheld their top positions in spite of suppliers describing downgrading them to merely "adequate." Still above average in supplier relations rankings (along with Nissan), previously Japan's two largest automakers were ranked "good to very good." Honda is still gets top marks for involving suppliers in product development and for helping suppliers lower costs and increase quality, while Toyota's decline was attributed to "less experienced staff in Toyota's purchasing group for whom the 'Toyota Way' is not yet the way of doing things."
Domestically, the... [Read More]

Your Nissan Versa is trying to kill you, with interior toxins |
|

Every couple of years, a study comes out identifying the myriad of chemicals being absorbed by your lungs during your daily commute. Surprisingly, these studies don't focus on emissions, but rather turn their scientific eye towards the materials that make up the interior of your car.
The Ecology Center, a non-profit environmental group, performed tests utilizing an X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) device that can measure "the elemental composition of any material" and came away with the ten best and worst vehicles to be stuck inside. The Chevy Cobalt, Chrysler PT Cruiser and Honda Odyssey take top honors for having the fewest toxins, while the Nissan Versa, Chevy Aveo and Scion xB are the worst offenders.
The tests isolate toxins like, arsenic, bromine, chlorine and mercury, found in everything from the carpet to the dash board, but the Ecology Center didn't identify what the degree of risk is while sitting in start and stop traffic.
We've heard about this issue before, and while some maintain that it's a... [Read More]

We're fired up about a few things for episode #61. We eventually get to an enthusiastic discussion of the American LeMans Series, but we wind our way through a few subjects to get there. We start off with the snub to Chrysler by some DCX shareholders who suggest a return... [Read More]

Nissan offering buyouts to 775 Tennessee workers |
|

Seems like few automakers are immune to downsizing these days, and Nissan is no exception. Today the automaker announced it's reducing its workforce in Tennessee by 12.5%, which equates to 775 heads. The reduction come via way of voluntary buyouts that include a $45,000 cash payment and additional $500 for every year worked. All the workers come from Nissan's two assembly plants in Tennessee, one in Smyrna where the Altima and Maxima, Pathfinder and Xterra are built, and the other in Decherd, which builds the engines to supply the Smyrna plant, as well as Nissan's assembly plant in Canton, Miss. Fortunately, 303 workers were reportedly eligible for retirment anyway and happy to take the buyout.

Enter the (pricing) rumormill: Nissan GT-R trim level and prices |
|
May 26, 2009 - 3:15 AM - by Nissan Forum

So, AutoExpress releases information today that says that the new GT-R will come in at £29,000... in Japan. We're not sure how that's going to equate in U.S. dollars (or yen, for that matter), but what was even more interesting was that they divulged the varying levels of trim that will be offered when the GT-R goes on sale next year.
The "entry-level" version will come equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox, four piston Brembos and the aforementioned £29,000 price tag. The next step up would be the £35,000 V-spec version, that gets a seven-speed DSG and six-piston stoppers, while the top o' the line Evolution package will get everything included in the V-spec, but will also come with lots of carbon fiber pieces to reduce weight. The GT-R Evolution will likely be priced over £50,000.
Again, we have no idea where these figures and trim levels came from, as AutoExpress only says that "sources"... [Read More]

1990 Nissan Skyline GT-R NISMO
On April 24, 2007, the Nissan Skyline turns 50 years old, and Nssan is going to celebrate. For starters, there's already a JDM 50th Anniversary version of the current Skyline (Infiniti G35) on sale in three distinct color combos. In addition to that, however, the automaker is staging an exhibition in midtown Tokyo called Grand Touring - The Legend and the Future in which examples of all twelve generations of Skyline will be displayed. As you might have guessed from the name, there will also be information on the history of Japanese grand touring and its future direction. The exhibit will run from April 24 to May 6.
In other news, the Autoblog staffers wish they had an unlimited travel budget. Sadly, that's not the case, so we'll have to make do with the gallery below, which shows one example from each... [Read More]

click the above image to view pics of the 2007 NISMO 350Z
In July you'll be able to purchase the fifth and most hardcore model in Nissan's 350Z lineup, the 2007 NISMO 350Z. While we don't know pricing yet, we can tell you what the NISMO Z features above and beyond a garden variety 350Z. The most obvious addition is the NISMO aerodynamics package that includes a new front fascia with a highly extroverted front chin spoiler, side skirts and a new rear fascia with a diffuser big enough on which to throw a picnic for two. The car also features a specially tuned independant multi-link suspension, big Brembo brakes, a NISMO-tuned exhaust and NISMO gunmetal gray RAYS lightweight 5-spoke forged-alloy wheels wearing Bridgestone Potenzas. The front wheels are 18-inches large while the rears grow to 19-inches. The interior features exclusive black cloth seats with red inserts and red stitching throughout, as well as NISMO white...
